South Australia's Strategic Plan

Overview

South Australia’s Strategic Plan (SASP) is a blueprint for our prosperity and wellbeing, to deliver a society where health, equality, safety, enterprise and creativity underpin a quality of life that is the envy of the world.

The South Australian Government uses the plan to help shape its directions and investment:

  • New government initiatives must outline how they achieve the plan’s targets when they are submitted to Cabinet for approval
  • The lead agencies in government report progress against the plan’s targets every six months and this is collated in a biennial progress report from the Community Engagement Board.
  • The annual State Budget is framed around the plan
  • The plan sets a high-level framework for more detailed planning by the State Government. For example, planning documents, such as the 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide and Water for Good, fit under the plan and help to achieve its targets and objectives.
  • Chief Executives from all State Government agencies are accountable for achieving the plan’s targets as part of their personal ‘performance agreements’

.

Why we are consulting

The current Plan was launched in 2006. Now, four years down the track, it’s time to revisit the plan.

The South Australian Government is inviting you and your community to have your say on the ideas, goals and priorities that will guide the state for the years ahead.

The Department for Families and Communities is actively supporting the community consultation and has a special interest in parts of the Plan regarding homelessness, affordable housing, housing, disability and participation.

During the 2010 SASP update (a target of 10,000) South Australians will be invited to participate in extensive, state-wide consultations using a combination of face to face forums and interactive online forums.

What happens next

The common themes and key messages raised by the community will provide the framework for a refreshed Strategic Plan – a Plan shaped by vision statements about the aspirations of South Australians for South Australia’s future.

This will change the plan – from a set of objectives to clear outcome statements which articulate the community vision for South Australia.

The Community Engagement Board is committed to ensuring that the Plan maintains its current high levels of measurability and transparency.
